In the early hours of Sunday, April 7, 2024, the life of 17-year-old Bryson Cochran, a male student from Central High School, was tragically cut short. The promising young man, known for his love of sports and his respectful and loving nature, was found lying in the roadway in the 2900 block of Tip Top Drive in Columbus, Georgia, with a fatal gunshot wound.
The call reporting the shooting came in at approximately 12:32 a.m., and upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered the grim scene. Despite the efforts of first responders, Bryson Cochran was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:23 a.m.
The shooting occurred in the vicinity of an after-prom party where it is estimated that around 100 people were in attendance. However, the large number of potential witnesses did not immediately lead to a breakthrough in the case. Many of those present at the party stated that they did not see the events that led to the shooting, leaving investigators with a challenging path forward. The case has since been classified as an unsolved homicide.
As of a year after the incident, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Bryson Cochran, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Columbus Police Department has continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest. In an effort to bring justice to Bryson's grieving family and friends, a cash reward has been offered for any information that proves crucial to solving the case, with a significant portion of the reward being contributed by the Cochran family. The investigation into the untimely death of the high school senior remains open and active, with law enforcement officials hopeful that a crucial tip from the community will help bring closure to this tragic case.
