In the early morning hours of May 28, 2024, the life of 35-year-old Mariana Greene Mitchell was tragically cut short. A Black/African American female from Decatur, Georgia, she was discovered deceased inside a room at the Efficiency Lodge on Flat Shoals Road. Her death was the result of gun violence.
Responding to a call around 4:30 a.m., DeKalb County police found Mitchell at the scene. Alongside her, authorities found 33-year-old Lamar Pringle, who had also been shot. Pringle was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Crime scene investigators collected evidence, including multiple shell casings found in the motel's parking lot. At this time, details about what led to the shooting have not been released by law enforcement. The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing, and as of now, no information regarding any suspects or arrests has been made public.
Mariana was a mother of three children. Her family and friends held a visitation and funeral service to honor her memory in the days following her death.
