In a tragic culmination of domestic strife, 29-year-old Tomika Pullins lost her life on June 13, 2025, in Decatur, Georgia. For months, she had been attempting to sever ties with her estranged husband, 48-year-old William Almond, a man whose threats had become a dark cloud over her family's life. Pullins' mother, Nakita Bruce, later recounted that Almond had explicitly threatened to kill everyone in the house if Tomika did not return to him. The family had been in the process of serving him with legal papers, but his whereabouts were unknown. Records show a history of domestic incidents, with Pullins reporting to police that Almond had previously assaulted her. Despite these reports, her father, Timothy Pullins, felt that not enough was done to protect his daughter.
On that Friday afternoon, the situation escalated into a horrifying act of violence at the Forest of Columbia Apartments on Columbia Drive. Almond appeared at the apartment where Tomika was staying with relatives. When he was denied entry, he broke a window and fired multiple shots into the home. The bullets struck and fatally wounded both Tomika Pullins and her innocent 7-year-old niece, Dior Scott. First responders arrived to a devastating scene, finding both victims unresponsive inside the apartment; they were pronounced dead at the scene.
William Almond fled after the shooting but was apprehended by the DeKalb County SWAT Team later the same day. His capture brought a swift, though somber, development to the case. In the aftermath, the community and local leaders expressed their grief and outrage over the senseless loss of life. Almond had his first court appearance over the subsequent weekend and was held in the DeKalb County Jail.
In September 2025, a DeKalb County Grand Jury indicted William Almond on a lengthy list of over 30 charges stemming from the events of that day and prior incidents. The charges included two counts of malice murder, five counts of felony murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault and cruelty to children, home invasion, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The case, handled by the District Attorney's Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit, saw Almond remain jailed without bond as he awaited trial.
