In the winter of 2014, a young Black man named Jonte' Ta'mond Wiley, 21, was fatally shot in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The incident occurred on the evening of Monday, December 22, 2014, at The Village of Hanna apartments, formerly known as the Eden Green Apartments, located in the 2100 block of Eden Street on the city's southeast side. Though not a resident of the complex, Wiley was reportedly involved in an argument that tragically escalated to gunfire.
Emergency services transported Wiley
to Lutheran Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m. The Allen County Coroner's Office later confirmed that the cause of his death was multiple gunshot wounds and officially ruled the manner of death as a homicide. His passing marked the 15th homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County for that year. In the wake of the tragedy, the Peace and Justice Commission of Allen County organized a 'Heal the Land' service to honor his memory and offer a space for community grieving.
Despite the passage of time, the investigation into Jonte Wiley's murder has remained without a public resolution. As of early 2025, no arrests have been announced in connection with his death, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case continues to be an open and unsolved homicide, leaving his family and the community awaiting answers and the justice that has so far remained elusive.
