In the early moments of the Fourth of July, 2024, a dispute on the road in DeKalb County, Georgia, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 37-year-old Toreon Adams. The Black/African American man from Decatur was shot just after midnight in the vicinity of Colony East Drive near Stone Mountain.
Responding to a 'person shot' call, DeKalb County police discovered Adams at the scene with injuries.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a road rage incident.
The day following the shooting, authorities apprehended a suspect. Ahmunet Shabazz was taken into custody after a traffic stop in the area of South Hairston and Rockbridge roads. Shabazz was subsequently booked into the DeKalb County jail. She faces charges of felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with the death of Toreon Adams and is being held without bond.
