In the late hours of a Monday night in Southeast Washington, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, leaving a family and community to mourn the loss of Anthony Thomas Sr. The 40-year-old man was inside an apartment on the 4200 block of 7th Street, SE, on February 6, 2023, when the violence erupted. Just before 11:30 p.m., the sound of gunshots pierced the night, prompting a response from the Seventh District police.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Anthony Thomas Sr.
suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene and quickly transported him to a nearby hospital. Despite the urgent medical attention and all life-saving efforts, the injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The immediate investigation at the scene led to the swift apprehension of a suspect. Police arrested 35-year-old Latasha Gray, also of Southeast, D.C., in connection with the fatal shooting. Authorities later confirmed that the incident was domestic in nature, though the specific relationship between Thomas and Gray was not immediately disclosed. Gray has since been charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed.
