In the evening hours of Thursday, February 23, 2023, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in the 3100 block of Buena Vista Terrace in Southeast Washington, D.C. When the chaos subsided, 30-year-old Dimitri Remache, a male resident of Fort Washington, Maryland, was left with a fatal gunshot wound. Police were called to the scene at approximately 11:10 p.m. for a report of an unconscious person and found Remache unresponsive. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived soon after and, finding no signs of life, pronounced him dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that another adult male had also been struck by the gunfire. This second victim, whose identity has not been publicly released, was able to transport himself to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The incident was one of three separate homicides that occurred in Southeast D.C.
within a span of less than eight hours that same day.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch are actively investigating the killing of Dimitri Remache. In an effort to gather more information, the department has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. To date, authorities have not released any information regarding potential suspects or a motive for the shooting, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the case. The investigation remains ongoing.
