On Saturday, July 1, 2023, at approximately 12:53 a.m., 27-year-old Frank Maddox, a Black male from Capital Heights, Maryland, was shot and killed. The incident occurred in the 1500 block of Good Hope Road, Southeast, a detail that would become central to the ensuing investigation.
Metropolitan Police Department officers from the Seventh District responded to a report of a shooting at the location.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Maddox suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene, but after finding no signs of life, Maddox was pronounced dead. His body was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
