The early morning hours of August 11, 2025, were shattered by violence in the parking lot of the Pocasset Village Apartments in Cranston, Rhode Island, leaving a teenage boy dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was 16-year-old Eduardo Loran Colon, a male from Providence. His body was not discovered until after 9 a.m., several hours after the fatal shooting occurred.
Investigators quickly determined that the shooting had taken place around 2:53 a.m.
The incident was captured on surveillance video, which showed Colon arriving at the apartment complex in a stolen vehicle with two other individuals. All three, dressed in dark clothing and masks, appeared to be searching other cars in the parking lot when one of the individuals, identified as 19-year-old D'Maury Monteiro, pulled out a handgun. Monteiro fired multiple shots at close range, striking Colon as he tried to flee. The teenager collapsed moments later. Police later described the scene as looking 'almost like an execution.' At the scene, detectives recovered. 40-caliber shell casings and seized two vehicles as evidence.
Within a day of the discovery of Colon's body, an arrest was made. D'Maury Monteiro of Fall River, Massachusetts, was taken into custody in Dorchester, Massachusetts, with the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals and Massachusetts State Police. Monteiro was charged with first-degree murder and two weapons counts. He waived extradition and was arraigned in Kent County District Court, where a judge ordered him held without bail.
While Monteiro was quickly apprehended, the investigation remains ongoing as police continue to search for the third individual present at the time of the shooting. Authorities have indicated they are following up on evidence and are hopeful the second suspect will also be taken into custody. A motive for the killing has not been officially released, though police noted the individuals arrived in a stolen car and appeared to be planning to steal another vehicle.
