In the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the sound of gunshots shattered the quiet on the 1600 block of 14th Street, Northwest in Washington, D.C. At approximately 3:59 a.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers from the Third District were dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man lying unconscious and not breathing in the street, having sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.
The victim was identified as 35-year-old Henry Crutchfield, a Black male
from Waldorf, Maryland. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded but found no signs of life, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. In the immediate aftermath, the area, known for its restaurants and bars, was cordoned off as a homicide investigation began. Investigators initially announced they were searching for a silver vehicle in connection with the shooting but did not provide a description of any potential suspect. The police department offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information that would lead to an arrest and conviction in the case.
The investigation continued for several months. Then, on Friday, October 3, 2025, a breakthrough was made. Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, acting on D.C. Superior Court arrest warrants, located and apprehended two individuals. The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Damari Brown of Northeast, D.C., and 24-year-old Antoin Whitehead of Southeast, D.C. Both men were charged with First Degree Murder While Armed – Felony Murder for their alleged roles in the fatal shooting of Henry Crutchfield.
