On August 26, 2009, Joshua Mack, who also went by the name Tyli'a "Na Na Boo" Mack, was tragically killed in a stabbing incident in Washington, D.C. The attack occurred in the 200 block of Q Street NW at approximately 2:38 p.m. Joshua, a transgender woman, was one of two individuals stabbed in broad daylight near a drop-in center for transgender youth.
