In the spring of 2023, a violent encounter in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, D.C., ended the life of 36-year-old Orlando Galloway. On the evening of Sunday, April 2nd, police responded to a report of an assault in an apartment in the 200 block of 14th Street SE. Inside, they discovered a grim scene. Galloway had sustained both gunshot and stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman was also discovered in the apartment with stab wounds and was transported to a
local hospital in stable condition. The day after the discovery of Galloway's body, law enforcement officials announced an arrest in the case. Julius Worthy, a 39-year-old resident of Southeast, D.C., was taken into custody.
Worthy was subsequently charged with second-degree murder while armed and assault with intent to kill. While an arrest was made swiftly, authorities did not immediately release a motive for the attack. Family members, reeling from the sudden loss, remembered Galloway as a beloved father to a nine-year-old daughter. His aunt described him as a 'jokester' who was also serious when he needed to be, a family-oriented man who served as their protector. He was a familiar and cherished presence at every family gathering.
