On a summer afternoon in Washington, D.C., a dispute in an alleyway tragically escalated, leading to the death of 46-year-old Donald B. Childs. The events unfolded on Sunday, July 30, 2023, in the 100 block of Farragut Street, Northwest. At approximately 2:43 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting and found Childs suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal.
The investigation into the homicide led to the identification of two suspects. The first to be arrested was 29-year-old Iesha Marks of Bowie, Maryland. Surveillance footage reportedly captured an individual, believed to be Marks, involved in a dispute before getting into a black Toyota Camry. The same vehicle returned to the scene roughly 20 minutes later, and shots were fired from inside, fatally wounding Childs. Authorities have alleged that the evidence overwhelmingly points to Marks as the shooter.
A second suspect, 21-year-old Daniel Bangura of Southeast, D.C., was later arrested and also charged in connection with the murder. Both Iesha Marks and Daniel Bangura have been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed. While arrests have been made, the motive for the shooting and the specific relationship between the suspects and Donald B. Childs have not been publicly disclosed by law enforcement.
