On the evening of August 5, 2023, a tragic shooting shattered the community in the 1600 block of Good Hope Road in Southeast, Washington, D.C., claiming the life of 35-year-old Bernard Hodges. A resident of Northeast, D.C., Hodges was a married father of four who was working three jobs to support his family, including as a stationary engineer at MGM National Harbor. He was remembered by his family as a man deeply committed to education and frustrated by the violence in his community.
