In the early morning hours of March 7, 2019, the quiet of a Washington, D.C. neighborhood was broken by the discovery of a young man's body. At approximately 3:27 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District were dispatched to the unit block of Halley Place, Southeast, following a report of a man down. Upon their arrival, they found 27-year-old Brian Kennedy, Jr., a Black male from Temple Hills, Maryland, lying in the street, having sustained multiple gunshot
wounds.
Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, but their efforts were in vain. Kennedy showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the location. Investigators from the Homicide Branch were called in to piece together the events that led to this tragic end. While Kennedy was found on Halley Place, preliminary information suggested to detectives that he may have been shot at another location before his body was left in the residential street.
