On the evening of July 4, 2023, a day meant for celebration, 27-year-old Christopher L. Harris, a Black male, found himself in a harrowing situation outside the Overlook Apartments on Buena Vista Pike in Nashville, Tennessee. As he stood beside his vehicle, a group of males approached him. In a sudden burst of violence, approximately seven of the individuals opened fire, unleashing a barrage of as many as 100 rounds. At least one of the shooters was seen wielding a rifle.
Harris was struck by multiple gunshots and was later found inside his car. The motive for this brutal shooting remains under investigation.
The assailants fled the scene in three separate vehicles, sparking an intensive investigation by Nashville homicide detectives. In the months that followed, the relentless work of law enforcement began to bring the suspects to justice. The first arrest came on July 6, when 16-year-old Jaden Wright was taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide. Less than a week later, on July 11, a second teenager, 17-year-old Erion Nesbitt, was arrested and faced charges of criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and unlawful gun possession. The following day, July 12, detectives apprehended 23-year-old Deandre Jordan at his workplace and charged him with criminal homicide and aggravated assault.
The search for the remaining suspects continued, and in September 2023, a fourth individual, 16-year-old Kentrell Baugh, was arrested. The investigation also led to the arrest of 27-year-old Robterrius Clack in February 2024, who was charged as an accessory after the fact for allegedly being one of the getaway drivers. The final suspect, 22-year-old Kejuan Jordan-Cole, who had been placed on the Metro Nashville Police Department's 'Top 10 Most Wanted' list, was apprehended in April 2024 during a traffic stop from which he attempted to flee. He was charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The series of arrests brought a measure of solace to Harris's grieving family, who had been fervently hoping for all those involved in his death to be held accountable.
