In the late afternoon of a Monday in Washington, D.C., violence tragically cut short the life of a teenager. On September 25, 2023, in the 2300 block of Green Street, Southeast, 16-year-old Jamal Jones was shot. The incident occurred around 3:38 p.m. in a residential area of Anacostia.
Responding to reports of a shooting, officers from the Seventh District of the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene to find the young male unconscious and suffering from gunshot wounds.
Tragically, his injuries were fatal, and Jamal Jones was pronounced dead at the location. At the time of the incident, authorities reported that the teenager had no fixed address.
In the weeks following the shooting, the investigation into the death of Jamal Jones continued. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch began seeking the public's help to move forward with the case. Authorities released surveillance footage showing a person of interest and asked for assistance in identifying and locating this individual. As of mid-October 2023, no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide. The police department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death.
