In the early morning hours of September 1, 2018, the life of 28-year-old Carl Day-Baker was tragically cut short in the Fairlawn neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C. A product of Washington, D.C., raised in Anacostia, he was a devoted father to his four children.
At approximately 1:20 a.m., officers from the Seventh District responded to the sound of gunshots on the 1500 block of T Street, Southeast. Upon arrival, they discovered Day-Baker suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident marked the 104th homicide in the District that year.
Detectives began an investigation, identifying a silver Lexus as a possible vehicle connected to the gunman. Their efforts led to a significant development in the case within days. On September 5, 2018, police arrested 27-year-old Timothy Gibson of Southeast, D.C. Gibson was subsequently charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with the fatal shooting of Day-Baker. Authorities did not immediately release a motive for the killing.
