Tejuan Coleman, a 31-year-old Black / African American man, spent the night of Friday, December 22, 2023, riding through Southeast Washington, D.C., in a rideshare car as the city settled into a cold winter weekend. Shortly before midnight, as the vehicle moved through the Southeast quadrant, another car pulled alongside. In an instant, the quiet of the ride was shattered by gunfire aimed at the car carrying Coleman, turning an ordinary trip into a desperate struggle for his life.
