In the late afternoon of November 4, 2023, a dispute in the 1400 block of L Street in Southeast Washington, D.C., turned fatal, claiming the life of 22-year-old Charles Jaquel Towles. A Black male, Mr. Towles was found by First District officers around 3:45 p.m. suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response and life-saving efforts of D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
