In the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 15, 2024, violence erupted inside a residence in the 3300 block of D Street, Southeast in Washington, D.C. Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 12:53 a.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers from the Sixth District arrived to a chaotic scene. Inside the home, they discovered three individuals who had been struck by gunfire.
One of the victims was 48-year-old Detrick Ealy, a male of no fixed address.
Despite the immediate response and life-saving efforts of emergency personnel, Mr. Ealy succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Another man and a woman were also wounded in the shooting and were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. A third victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Detectives from the Homicide Branch are actively investigating the fatal shooting. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this homicide. Authorities have not released any information regarding a possible motive or any potential suspects in the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as police appeal to the public for any information that might help them solve this case.
