In the early morning hours of November 15, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn quiet in the 1900 block of 14th Street, Southeast in Washington, D.C. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District arrived at the scene around 6:05 a.m., they discovered a grim tableau. Two men had been shot, one found in the 2100 block of 14th Street, Southeast, and the other in the 2000 block of Martin Luther King Jr.
Avenue, Southeast.
One of the victims was 68-year-old Nathaniel Martin, a Black/African American male. Both he and the other wounded man were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Nathaniel Martin succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Southeast D.C. community was left to grapple with the violent loss of one of its residents.
The investigation into the fatal shooting continued for several months. Then, on April 18, 2022, a significant development occurred in the case. Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended a suspect. The individual taken into custody was identified as 30-year-old William Brock, a man of no fixed address.
Following his arrest, Brock was charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with the death of Nathaniel Martin. In addition to the murder charge, Brock also faced charges of assault with intent to kill while armed and robbery while armed. The case against him remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to the tragic shooting.
