A quiet morning in Northeast D.C. was shattered by violence when Herbert Jones, a 51-year-old man, was found shot to death. On Monday, September 2, 2024, at approximately 6:42 a.m., police responded to a call about a man down in the 5100 block of Sheriff Road, Northeast. Upon arrival, they discovered Jones unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the case as a homicide.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and authorities have not released any information about a possible motive or suspects. Investigators have been canvassing the area and are urging anyone with information to come forward. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Jones' death.
