In the late summer of 2023, the community of Pueblo, Colorado, was shaken by a violent incident that resulted in the death of 36-year-old Jason Trujillo. On the night of August 27th, a shooting broke out in the 1200 block of Berwind Avenue, an area near the city's steel mill. The event, which occurred around 12:50 a.m., left a total of four people with gunshot wounds.
Jason Trujillo, a male resident of Pueblo, was one of the victims and succumbed to his injuries.
In addition to Trujillo, three women were also wounded in the shooting. Two of these women sustained life-threatening injuries and were subsequently transported to hospitals in Colorado Springs for advanced medical care. Reports indicated that they were expected to survive their injuries.
The Pueblo Police Department's Crimes Against Persons unit, along with crime scene investigators, promptly began an investigation into the deadly shooting. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, law enforcement had not made any arrests in connection with the shooting, and no suspects had been publicly identified.
The Pueblo County Coroner's Office later officially identified Jason Trujillo as the deceased victim of the shooting. His death marked another homicide in the city of Pueblo for the year 2023. The investigation into the circumstances of his death and the search for those responsible remains ongoing.
