On the evening of August 13, 2018, in Pueblo, Colorado, a violent encounter cut short the life of 28-year-old Isaac Hughes. Responding to a call just before 8 p.m. in the 1700 block of E. 4th Street, police discovered Hughes unresponsive in the street, having sustained a gunshot wound to the neck. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
Despite medical efforts, his family made the difficult decision to remove him from life support, and he succumbed to his injuries the following afternoon.
Originally from the Pueblo area, Hughes was a resident of Altus, Oklahoma at the time of his death. Born in Denver, he had moved to Altus at the age of 15 and was employed with R&R Heating and Air Conditioning. He was known for his love of family, music, and football.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led detectives with the Pueblo Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Section to identify a suspect: 18-year-old Joseph Angelo Lollar. Investigators believe Lollar drove to Hughes's home with other individuals in his vehicle and opened fire. The motive for the shooting is thought to be an argument between the two men concerning a third-party relationship.
In a significant development, Joseph Angelo Lollar turned himself in to the authorities. Following the death of Isaac Hughes, Lollar faced a charge of first-degree murder for his alleged role in the fatal shooting. The case proceeded through the justice system based on the evidence gathered by the Pueblo Police Department.
