In the early hours of an August morning in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the sound of gunshots pierced the quiet, drawing the attention of police officers who were nearby on an unrelated call. As they searched for the source of the gunfire, a call came into the dispatch center that would lead them to the tragic end of a life. At The Arbor on Fir Apartments, near the intersection of West 30th and South Fir, they discovered 37-year-old Timothy Cannady, a male victim, lying unresponsive on the ground.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The events that followed took an unexpected turn when a 22-year-old man named Martavius Keshawn Jackson called dispatch and identified himself as the shooter. He informed them that he had left the area in his vehicle. Following the dispatcher's instructions, Jackson returned to the scene of the shooting, where he was met by Pine Bluff officers.
Upon his return to the apartment complex, Jackson was taken into custody without incident. Officers also recovered a firearm that was on his person at the time of his arrest. After being transported to the Detective Office for an interview, Jackson was then taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
He was booked on a charge of 1st Degree Murder as the investigation into the death of Timothy Cannady continued. Authorities have asked that anyone with further information regarding the homicide contact the Pine Bluff Police Department.
