On the evening of August 29, 2024, the life of 20-year-old Kavon Campbell, a Black/African American male from Davenport, Iowa, was tragically cut short. At approximately 9:07 p.m., Davenport police were dispatched to the 7500 block of Northwest Boulevard following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a chaotic scene with three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Alongside a 27-year-old female and a 17-year-old male, Kavon Campbell was found seriously injured.
All three were promptly transported to a local hospital for emergency medical care.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Kavon Campbell succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on August 30, 2024. The two other victims, however, survived the incident. Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence, suggesting that the victims may have been targeted. The Davenport Police Department urged the public to come forward with any information that could lead to an arrest, seeking assistance through their official channels and the QC Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line.
In the days that followed the fatal shooting, the investigation led to a significant breakthrough. On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, authorities announced the arrest of a 15-year-old male in connection with the homicide. Due to the suspect's juvenile status, his identity has not been publicly released. The teenager faces a litany of serious charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and willful injury causing serious injury. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events of that tragic evening.
