Dr. Thomas Meixner, a 52-year-old professor and head of the University of Arizona’s Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, was fatally shot on October 5, 2022, near his office on the university campus. The perpetrator was identified as Murad Dervish, a 48-year-old former graduate student who had been expelled from the university earlier in 2022 due to ongoing issues with professors and multiple reports of harassment and threats against staff members.
