In the warm evening air of a Tucson, Arizona park, the life of 19-year-old Anthony Estevan Mendoza Valenzuela was tragically cut short. On September 5, 2026, at approximately 10:15 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire at Thomas Jay Regional Park, located at South Craycroft and East Littletown roads. Upon their arrival, they discovered Valenzuela with gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the officers and responding personnel from the Tucson Fire Department, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Valenzuela had been at the park with several other people when the shooting occurred.
