In the early morning hours of November 29, 2015, a house party in west Phoenix turned deadly, claiming the life of 21-year-old Rodney Foster Denney Jr. A male, Denney was acting as security for the gathering when a dispute erupted, leading to his fatal shooting.
The incident began when a group of uninvited individuals, described as approximately five Hispanic males and females, attempted to enter the party, which was in the process of ending.
When they were denied entry by a female who was helping to clear the event, an argument broke out. The situation escalated into a physical altercation between the females.
Rodney Denney Jr. stepped in to intervene and de-escalate the confrontation. It was during this intervention that someone from the uninvited group shot him. The suspects then fled the scene. Phoenix police officers responded to a call about the shooting just before 3 a.m. and found Denney in the driveway of the home with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In the wake of the shooting, many of the party attendees had already left the scene. Those who remained were interviewed by police but were unable to provide specific information about the shooter's identity. Authorities publicly appealed for assistance, asking anyone with information about the group of males and females to come forward. A reward of up to $2,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. Despite these efforts, no arrests have been publicly announced, and the case remains unsolved.
