In the early morning hours of October 28, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona, the life of 21-year-old Marquez Anthony Demarcus Booker was tragically cut short. At approximately 3:20 a.m., Phoenix police officers were dispatched to the area of 67th Avenue and Highland Avenue after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered two men who had sustained gunshot wounds.
One of the victims was Marquez Anthony Demarcus Booker, a young man known for his happy demeanor, positive
attitude, and a constant smile. He was a kind, giving, and empathetic individual. The other victim was identified as 34-year-old Jose Carlos Jimenez. Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled on foot. Homicide detectives with the Phoenix Police Department immediately began an investigation, which led them to identify 20-year-old Jessie James Olvera as the suspect. Investigators tracked Olvera to a residence in the vicinity of 73rd Avenue and Sanna Street in the nearby city of Peoria.
After a barricade situation at the Peoria home, Jessie James Olvera was taken into custody. During an interview with detectives, Olvera made incriminating statements regarding the shooting. He was subsequently booked on multiple felony charges, including two counts of second-degree murder. The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing.
