In the warm evening of June 20, 2023, in west Phoenix, Arizona, the life of 17-year-old Fabian Ulises Rivera, a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short. Just after 11 p.m., he was discovered with a life-threatening gunshot wound and rushed to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving a void in the lives of those who knew him. The incident unfolded near 85th Drive and Encanto Boulevard, where police later found evidence of a shooting close to a park.

Fabian, who was about to begin his senior year of high school, had gone out to spend time with friends. His mother, Carmen Rivera, recalled her last words to him were to hurry back, a wish that would tragically go unfulfilled. Following the death of his father, Fabian had become the man of the house, promising his mother that he would take care of her and was planning to start working to support the family. His death left his family devastated and yearning for answers.

Phoenix police detectives launched an investigation into the homicide. They canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses and any available surveillance footage, which eventually led them to obtain a search warrant for a nearby home. Although several individuals were detained and interviewed in connection with the shooting, they were all subsequently released. As of now, the person or persons responsible for Fabian's death remain at large, and no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing as his family and community continue to seek justice for the young life that was taken.
