In the early morning hours of May 24, 2023, the life of 32-year-old Adrian Cantu Silva was tragically cut short in a Phoenix, Arizona neighborhood. Responding to reports of gunfire near 41st Avenue and Camelback Road around 4:00 a.m., authorities discovered Silva had been fatally shot. A neighbor reported hearing as many as three gunshots, piercing the quiet of the morning.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect, 30-year-old Rebecca Rodriguez.
Further investigation by Phoenix Police revealed that Rodriguez and Silva were allegedly involved in an affair. It is believed that an argument between the two escalated dramatically, leading to the fatal shooting. According to court documents, Silva's wife witnessed Rodriguez shoot her husband during the altercation.
On June 5, 2023, investigators with the Phoenix Police Department located and arrested Rebecca Rodriguez at a residence near 4500 North 56th Drive. Following her arrest and an interview at Police Headquarters, Rodriguez was booked into jail on a charge of second-degree murder. Her bond was set at one million dollars.
In her statement to the police, Rodriguez presented a different version of events. She claimed that during the argument, another individual had the gun and it accidentally discharged. She asserted that she was then handed the weapon and fired a warning shot into the air in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. Rodriguez alleged that the gun went off a third time accidentally as she was waving her hands, and she did not intend to shoot Silva.
