In the early morning hours of August 29, 2024, a tragedy unfolded in a South Phoenix home that claimed the life of 51-year-old Jesus Larson. A male resident of the community, Mr. Larson was in his bed when the peace of the night was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Several shots were fired at his residence located in the vicinity of 8th Street and Desert Drive South.
One of the bullets penetrated the walls of his home, striking and fatally wounding him as he slept.
The initial discovery was made later that morning, around 7:00 a.m., when the Phoenix Fire Department responded to a call about a deceased adult male. Upon their arrival, paramedics found Mr. Larson and pronounced him dead at the scene, noting that he had sustained obvious signs of trauma. The Phoenix Police Department was then contacted to take over the investigation. When officers arrived, they confirmed that he had at least one gunshot wound, and homicide detectives were dispatched to the scene.
Preliminary investigations by the Phoenix Police detectives suggest that the fatal shooting occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m., several hours before Mr. Larson was found. As of now, the suspect or suspects involved in this violent act remain unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not released any information regarding a potential motive for the shooting.
In the wake of this tragic event, law enforcement has reached out to the public for assistance.
