In the early morning hours of August 24, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a south Phoenix neighborhood, forever altering the lives of three people. Thirty-year-old Jeremy Carra, a Hispanic male and a member of the Ak-Chin Community, was caught in the violence that erupted near 19th Avenue and Dobbins Road. When Phoenix police officers responded to the call around 3:00 a.m., they discovered a grim scene with three adults suffering from gunshot wounds.
All three victims were
rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. While a man and a woman survived the ordeal and were listed in stable condition, Jeremy Carra succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The suspects reportedly fled the scene, heading north on 19th Avenue, leaving investigators to piece together the events that led to the deadly shooting. The motive behind the violent attack remains unclear to authorities.
The investigation into Jeremy's death continued for months. A break in the case came when investigators arrested 24-year-old Zacariah Garcez about a month after the shooting. A second individual, 19-year-old Jordan Wren, was soon identified as another suspect, but he managed to elude police. It wasn't until May 13, 2025, that Wren was located and apprehended by patrol officers during a traffic stop. Following his arrest, Wren faced charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault for his alleged role in the shooting that ended Jeremy Carra's life and injured two others.
