On the afternoon of May 20, 2026, the life of 48-year-old Joshua Fernandez was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in west Phoenix. The incident occurred around 2:17 p.m. near 1800 North 60th Drive, in the vicinity of 59th Avenue and McDowell Road. Phoenix police officers were dispatched to the scene after a 911 caller reported hearing the sound of gunfire and then witnessing a man lying on the ground in the roadway.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Joshua Fernandez with gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders from the Phoenix Fire Department provided immediate medical aid to Fernandez at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The Phoenix Police Department's Violent Crimes Bureau homicide detectives have taken charge of the investigation into the shooting.
