In the Bronx, a life was abruptly cut short on a Tuesday morning, leaving a community grappling with the shock of sudden violence. Clay Monsanto, a 32-year-old male, was fatally shot in the back on August 26, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 8:10 a.m. in front of 1353 Anthony Avenue in the Tremont neighborhood.
According to police, a man approached Monsanto, pulled out a gun, and fired before fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders rushed Monsanto to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Surveillance footage from the area captured the sound of the gunshots, a chilling reminder of the violence that unfolded.
The New York Police Department has identified a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting. Evaristo Melendez, a 47-year-old male with a dark complexion and medium build, is being sought by authorities. At the time he was last seen, Melendez was wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and blue sneakers.
