In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 9, 2021, a dispute inside a Bronx nightclub tragically escalated, claiming the life of 30-year-old Shamar Watt. The Black male was inside a bar and nightclub located at 4555 Third Avenue in the Belmont section of the Bronx when an argument erupted with another man over whose turn it was to use the restroom.
At approximately 3:48 a.m., the verbal altercation turned violent when the other man shot Shamar Watt in the head.
Police responded to a 911 call regarding the shooting and found Watt unconscious and unresponsive at the scene. Emergency medical services rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital for treatment of the severe gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Shamar Watt succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. His death was ruled a homicide.
The New York Police Department launched an investigation into the murder. In January 2022, authorities announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting. Damon Bailey, a 40-year-old resident of the Bronx, was taken into custody and charged with murder, criminal use of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon. The investigation into the death of Shamar Watt remains ongoing.
