On the night of April 12, 2022, in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx, 21-year-old Jesse Bynum was fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 10:08 p.m. near 2825 Olinville Avenue, where Bynum and three other individuals were gathered. A group of four males reportedly walked past them, and after an exchange of words, three of the individuals in the passing group opened fire.
Bynum was struck in the head and was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced
dead. Three other people were also wounded in the shootout but were listed in stable condition. The victims included a 33-year-old woman shot in the right arm, a 23-year-old man shot in the right thigh, and a 22-year-old man shot in the back. In the immediate aftermath, the suspects fled the scene on foot, and no arrests were made.
The investigation into the shooting continued, and in July 2022, the New York Police Department arrested 18-year-old Nasia Carson. He was charged with murder, manslaughter, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with Bynum's death.
Further developments in the case came in May 2025, when a federal indictment was unsealed. The indictment charged Nasia Carson, also known as 'Nas,' along with Elijah Santiago, known as 'Eli,' and Philip Mosca, known as '90,' with the murder of Jesse Bynum and racketeering offenses. The three were identified as alleged members of a Bronx-based gang called 'Feva.' Authorities stated that the shooting was an act of retaliation against a rival gang and that Bynum was killed when the suspects fired into a small crowd.
