On a Tuesday night in the Bronx, 25-year-old Jahwan Joseph was driving his gray Acura sedan with Georgia plates along the southbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway. It was around 9 p.m. on January 25, 2022, when a multi-car crash was reported near East 177th Street. When police and emergency services arrived at the scene, they discovered Mr. Joseph inside his vehicle, unresponsive. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his torso.
Emergency medical services rushed Jahwan Joseph to St.
Barnabas Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Investigators believe the shooting may have been the result of a road rage incident, though they have not ruled out the possibility of a stray bullet. It appeared that after being shot, Mr. Joseph's car veered and crashed into another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured and was not connected to the shooting.
Jahwan Joseph's father, Kenny Joseph, described his son as a good kid who worked as a union carpenter in Manhattan alongside him. He said his son, the eldest of three siblings who had moved to New York from Antigua a decade prior, was not involved in any trouble and had no known conflicts. Jahwan had simply been out to buy something and was on his way back.
As of the reports immediately following the incident, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The police investigation into the death of Jahwan Joseph is ongoing, and authorities have not released any description of a suspect or a suspect's vehicle.
