In Surprise, Arizona, a late-night argument between two men escalated into a fatal shooting that left one man dead. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Roberto Rodriguez. The incident unfolded near Grand Avenue and Greenway Road just before midnight when Rodriguez, a male, had arranged to meet with another man, 29-year-old Aristeo Estrada.
According to witnesses at the scene, the initial meeting between Rodriguez and Estrada quickly devolved into a physical altercation.
During the course of the fight, a single gunshot rang out, fatally wounding Rodriguez. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The nature of the dispute that led to the deadly confrontation was not immediately clear to investigators.
Following the shooting, the alleged gunman, Aristeo Estrada, fled the residence. Police arriving on the scene launched a search of the surrounding neighborhood. Estrada was discovered a short time later, hiding underneath a truck in a nearby backyard. He was taken into custody without further incident and was considered an investigative lead in the shooting. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a definitive motive for the fatal encounter.
