On May 31, 2016, Tomas Olivas Ornelas, a 49-year-old man from Mesa, Arizona, lost his life to gun violence under tragic circumstances. The incident began when Christopher Wright, a former Phoenix police officer, was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife, Nasbah Laverne Wright. During this altercation, Wright intentionally crashed the vehicle they were in, attempting to kill his wife.
