In March of 2022, the life of 18-year-old Chase Lemons was cut tragically short in Mesa, Arizona. On the evening of March 20th, Chase was sitting in his car with a male passenger in the area of 2200 S. Labelle when they were approached by three individuals. The encounter was a planned robbery set to take place during an illegal marijuana transaction. As Chase attempted to drive away to escape the situation, one of the suspects opened fire on the vehicle, striking both him and his passenger.
Both were wounded, and Chase sadly succumbed to his injuries in the hospital several days later; his passenger survived.
The initial investigation into the homicide was met with challenges due to a lack of physical evidence at the scene. However, through the execution of multiple search warrants and interviews, Mesa Police detectives were able to piece together the events of that fatal night. Their investigation led them to identify three suspects: 18-year-old Richard Mejia, 20-year-old Devon O'Rourke, and 19-year-old Isaiah Enriquez. Investigators determined that Enriquez was the individual who fired the weapon. A firearm that matched the caliber used in the shooting was discovered, and cellphone data placed Enriquez at the location of the crime.
In May of 2022, all three suspects were taken into custody. Isaiah Enriquez was charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. Richard Mejia and Devon O'Rourke were each charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. Described as a smart, witty, and caring young man, Chase was remembered by his family for his love of life and his selfless decision to be an organ donor, a choice that ultimately saved five lives.
