In the early morning hours of January 13, 2024, a dispute in a Mesa, Arizona, McDonald's drive-through lane ended in the tragic death of 22-year-old Daniel Betker. The young man, who was of Black/African-American and Hispanic heritage, was shot multiple times at approximately 3 a.m. at the fast-food restaurant located near Country Club Drive and Southern Avenue. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
