On July 3, 2016, a tragic incident occurred in Mesa, Arizona, resulting in the death of 29-year-old Shawn Michael Mashburn. The incident began early in the morning when the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and Mesa police responded to multiple calls reporting shots fired near the intersection of 99th Street and University Drive.
