In the quiet predawn hours of February 7, 2023, a residence in Mesa, Arizona, became the scene of a fatal shooting. Inside a bedroom at a home near 1100 S. Palo Verde, 32-year-old Keith Emmons, a male, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. Mesa Police officers responded to reports of the shooting around 2:00 a.m. and discovered Emmons, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
From the outset of the investigation, witnesses identified 27-year-old Kathryn “Katie” Hansen as the suspect
in the shooting. This prompted the Mesa Police Department to issue a warrant for her arrest on a charge of first-degree murder. For the next two months, Hansen remained at large as authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to her whereabouts.
The extensive search concluded on April 8, 2023, when Hansen was located and taken into custody by Phoenix Police officers. Her arrest was the result of numerous tips from the public that allowed detectives to track her down. Following her apprehension, it came to light that Hansen was also a suspect in another homicide that had occurred in Phoenix in January 2023. The Mesa Police Department expressed gratitude to the community for their assistance, which they credited with helping to remove a violent offender from the streets and bringing a measure of peace to the Emmons family.
