On the evening of September 15, 2024, the life of 41-year-old Charles C. McClellan II, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in a Mesa, Arizona home. Mesa Police officers responded to a call of shots fired near Brown and Greenfield Roads shortly before 8 p.m. Upon entering the residence, they discovered McClellan, who had been fatally shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The events that unfolded that Sunday night would soon lead to an arrest, leaving a family to mourn a man they describe as a loving protector with a comedic personality and a bright smile.
At the scene of the shooting, officers were met by 51-year-old Jason Greene, who informed them that he was the one who had shot a man inside the house. Following this admission, Greene was taken into custody and subsequently arrested. He was later booked into jail on a charge of manslaughter in connection with McClellan's death. While an arrest has been made, investigators have not publicly disclosed a clear motive for the shooting, leaving many questions unanswered about the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter between the two men.
Charles Clifford McClellan II, born on June 5, 1983, in Oklahoma, was remembered as a man with a wild and free spirit who cherished his friends as family. He had a deep love for animals, particularly his dogs, Quinn and MaryJane. McClellan attended ITT Technical Institute and worked in the tech industry, known for his intelligence and quick wit. He is survived by his father, three sisters, two daughters, two sons, and a granddaughter. A private celebration of his life is planned for the spring of 2025.
