In the early morning hours of June 27, 2021, a burst of violence at a Mesa, Arizona motel cut short the life of 28-year-old Michael Johnny Gonzalez. The male victim was at the Frontier Motel located at 1307 E. Main St. when the fatal encounter unfolded. The incident began when a man fired a handgun at Gonzalez through the glass of a hotel room. The aggression didn't stop there; the assailant then pursued Gonzalez into the parking lot, where he fired several more shots, ultimately killing
him.
Mesa Police officers were dispatched to the scene around 6:43 a.m. following reports of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered Michael Johnny Gonzalez deceased in the parking lot from gunshot wounds. The subsequent investigation quickly pointed to 27-year-old Stevie Jones as a person of interest. Law enforcement located and detained Jones and his girlfriend the following day, on June 28, 2021.
Following interviews with detectives, Stevie Jones was arrested in connection with the homicide. He was later booked into jail on charges of first-degree murder, a class 1 felony, and misconduct involving weapons, a class 4 felony. The investigation revealed the chilling sequence of events, from the initial shots fired through the motel room window to the final, fatal confrontation in the parking lot.
