On a summer evening in Mesa, Arizona, tragedy struck at an apartment complex near Broadway Road and 24th Street, forever altering the lives of several families. Inside one of the apartments on July 6, 2021, gunfire erupted, leaving a scene of violence that would ultimately claim the lives of two young men and injure another. Among the deceased was 18-year-old Michael Benitez, a male whose life was cut short in the sudden and brutal encounter.
