In a quiet Glendale, Arizona neighborhood, a tragic event unfolded that cut short the life of 85-year-old Pearl Mary Merenyi. On a Friday afternoon in January 2018, police received a distressing 911 call from a woman reporting a shooting at a residence near 49th and Peoria avenues. The caller informed authorities that a man had shot his mother-in-law before turning the gun on himself.
Upon their arrival at the home on West Saguaro Drive, officers discovered a grim scene.
Pearl Mary Merenyi and her 59-year-old son-in-law, Ricky L. Bailey, were found with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both Merenyi and Bailey resided together at the house where the shooting occurred. Emergency services from the Glendale Fire Department rendered aid at the scene before transporting both individuals to a local hospital for treatment of their critical injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, both Pearl Mary Merenyi and Ricky L. Bailey succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The investigation led by Glendale Police detectives pointed to a murder-suicide, with Bailey identified as the suspect in Merenyi's death. Authorities confirmed that they were not seeking any other suspects in connection with the incident.
